Hot Cross Buns Many Italians enjoy hot cross buns on Good Friday and over Easter weekend, but they make a good treat any time of the year.
–1 package refrigerated crescent rolls
–1/3 c. raisins
–1/4 tsp. grated lemon peel or orange peel (optional).
–1/4 c. powdered sugar
–1½ tsp. milk
–¼ tsp. vanilla extract.
Step 1: Preheat oven to 375°F.
Step 2: Remove dough according to directions on package. Separate rolls into 8 triangles. 3. In a small bowl, combine raisins and lemon or orange peel. (If you are only using raisins, this step is not necessary).
Step 3: Place about 1 tsp. of raisin mixture in the center of each triangle. Roll up each triangle and pinch the edges to seal. Place rolls on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake 12 to 14 minutes or until golden brown.
Step 4: Remove and place rolls on a cooling rack. In a small bowl, combine powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Stir until smooth, adding up to 1/2 tsp. more milk if necessary.
Step 5: Drizzle icing in a cross shape on top of each bun and serve.
